Among entrepreneurial bent\, community driven public art and dynamic learning initiatives for a variety of children and social groups\, Unity in 3 Parts signalizes the power of place to initiate dialogue between rich architectural and cultural traditions embedded in Fairmont Rosenwald School. In previous project phases\, glo activated immersive art experiences\, shops\, and conversation in local schools\, gardens\, and Main St. sidewalks. \nComponents of the project include Bridge Path\, an interactive sidewalk chalk project spanning the length of Griffin’s only downtown bridge\, across the train tracks\, to transcend historic divide of the American south; Alley gardens\, re-purposing Fairmont’s back paths and alleys in to vibrant outdoor areas; Dream-up spaces\, community pop-up space for local dance theatre\, and puppetry troupes; World Children’s Exhibition\, the debut art show at the restored school with local k–1st graders\, Freedpeople photography exhibition\, Rainbow Stations\, a pilot project for affordable artists’ housing in an underserved neighborhood and SEARCH ENGINE.

DESCRIPTION:performance exhibition \n11:30 am – 6 pm daily  \nAn interdisciplinary project that takes shape as an experimental performance exhibition with new music\, movement\, film\, and related public initiatives\, and is a collaboration on all elements between conductor Robert Spano\, choreographer Lauri Stallings and glo\, and the filmmaking team of Micah and Whitney Stansell. cloth is a durational experience that provides people time to mine the territory of human and non-human relationships (within ourselves)\, explore instinct\, memory\, family and the impact of what we are when we are alone vs. what we are when we are together. The creative team is compelled to experiment with ways of fitting together multiple identities and views in order to make a complex story or pattern from a number of interconnected elements. In this way\, the work feels like a visceral way into weaving\, the creation of cloth\, long a symbol of reason and the civilizing impulse hurled forward. Part I will include a new score written by conductor Robert Spano for five glo dancers and sculptural objects; part II consists of a double piano arrangement of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring with percussion\, expanding upon the cultural resonance of the work with dancers\, students and people\, and sculpture and film. Suspension forms the outer layers of the work\, and cloth uses this scenario as a vital touchstone for a time-specific experience that is sonic\, textural\, visual\, historical\, visceral and communal\, in an effort to alter temporal conditions and weave new ideas into public discourse. In tandem with the exhibition are Shops and artists Feeds.

DESCRIPTION:Civic Action \nMovement Choirs are creative outlets of nonviolence exercising at Atlanta’s National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Lauri Stallings is passionate about how dance can be a form of demonstration\, a slogan devoid of any demands or words\, suggesting a potential dialogue that may or may not occur\, waiting for the conversation to be filled by the viewers imagination. The artist constructs the Choirs as public choreographies inviting people to come together an exhibition site to sit\, skip\, stand\, kneel\, prance\, waltz\, spin\, be still\, shuffle and twist. Nomadic and free\, Choirs take on a different form depending on the space being occupied.

In previous project phases\, glo activated immersive art experiences\, shops\, and conversation in local schools\, gardens\, and Main St. sidewalks. \nComponents of the project include Bridge Path\, an interactive sidewalk chalk project spanning the length of Griffin’s only downtown bridge\, across the train tracks\, to transcend historic divide of the American south; Alley gardens\, re-purposing Fairmont’s back paths and alleys in to vibrant outdoor areas; Dream-up spaces\, community pop-up space for local dance theatre\, and puppetry troupes; World Children’s Exhibition\, the debut art show at the restored school with local k–1st graders\, Freedpeople photography exhibition\, Rainbow Stations\, a pilot project for affordable artists’ housing in an underserved neighborhood and SEARCH ENGINE.

We construct the Choirs as public choreographies inviting people to come together an exhibition site to sit\, skip\, stand\, kneel\, prance\, waltz\, spin\, be still\, shuffle and twist. Nomadic and free\, Choirs take on a different form depending on the space being occupied.
