SUMMARY:Note-taking\, virtual gathering
DESCRIPTION:Note-taking \nMonday March 29th\, 8p-8:15p virtual gathering \nWriting and Praxis lead curator Candice Thompson offers a series of open-ended writing experiments to forge deeper connections with our bodies and a reconnection with each other. Acknowledging the maxim that writing is simply re-writing\, we begin with the seed action of putting pencil to paper: note-taking. Thompson will guide through a series of exercises that are task-based and interrogative\, allowing opportunities for both short and longer explorations\, circling themes of desire\, distance\, gap spaces\, joints\, slowing down\, adaptability\, and resilience. This note-taking will function as a tandem conversation for the embodied practices of this initiative and will allow participants another portal from which we might listen to images and embark together. \nNote-taking experiments will be emailed on Sunday evenings throughout the initiative. The series will culminate in a 15-minute virtual gathering on the fourth Monday at 8 p.m.  \nFrom the (silent) Touch is a live-stream guide for us to explore the pasts and the futures of Touch.\, from March 2-April 2\, 2021. \nglo projects are free and public. Write us for more information. Limited seats are available: info@gloatl.org

DESCRIPTION:brooming: “a survey in seed time” \nMarch 2-April 2\nTuesdays\n2pm-2:45pm\nlive-stream \nHow do we imagine ourselves as deeper caretakers of the things that exist in the world?  Artist Lauri Stallings has been photo documenting piles of debris\, dust\, and scraps in her home as a living archive of what is happening at her feet over the last 11 months. Through the poetics of this labor\, “brooming: a survey in time” centers community service as a map\, to trace the invisibility of effort\, but also to practice companion-ship\, and the necessary unevenness on the road to healing. The subjects the artist wishes to address are women\, and all women and their ancestors\, mommas\, and their momma’s sisters\, and their own sisters\, and their children\, and their children’s friends momma’s. brooming: “a survey in seed time” grounds brooming done when the sun is high in mid afternoon\, to give maintenance and appreciation for the dust and stuff growing out of places\, to labor in solitude\, in community. Working in tandem\, these live-stream sweeping lessons aim to create new tools that inspire while cultivating systems that sustain. \n*brooming: “a survey in seed time” is a research work  in progress that began independently by the artist  in fall 2020 alongside an intimate group of local women\, with major support from Fulton County Arts & Culture. \nFrom the (silent) Touch is a guide for us to explore the pasts and the futures of Touch. \nglo projects are free. SUMMARY:Premiere: i came to explore the sun\, of something more permanent\, the moves are maps
DESCRIPTION:i came to explore the sun\, of something more permanent\, the moves are maps\nPremiere\nJan. 25- 30\, 2021\non-line: https://vimeo.com/showcase/7889729 \nOffering the river as an action and verb\, and water as movement\, we actively challenges us to slowly navigate through the entire space\, and together\, think about what water can teach the South about gender\, intimacy\, equity\, collaboration\, and collective power.  \ni came to explore the sun\, of something more permanent\, the moves are maps is a new site-based research piece by artist and choreographer Lauri Stallings consisting of new sculpture and choreographies in 3 creek sites\, all envisioning southern women’s experiences. Starring Georgia women Ashley Ianna Daye\, Christina Hiroko Kelly\, and Mechelle Tunstall\, the work is about how southern women help one another with female strength\, to hold questions about physical and emotional strategies for coming together\, and deep listening\, while shifting the understanding of dance from traditional studio practice to a more sculptural base of transforming the social environment.  i came to explore the sun\, of something more permanent\, the moves are maps\, is glo’s first work for film and producers Meridian Herald and First Congregational Church as part of Atlanta Music Festival\, and is stitched together in collaboration with writer and filmmaker Hal Jacobs.  \n The film’s reduced time with glo\, typically happening over huge periods of time\, can be regarded as a positive element because it does not overwhelm us\, and allows us to dedicate our full attention to every spectrum of nature and woman.  \n  \nFor more information\, go to Meridian Herald

SUMMARY:gloPLAY: Movement SHOPS for Atlanta's youth
DESCRIPTION:gloPLAY\nSaturday\, January 4- Saturday\, May 23\, 2020\nTuesdays at 4 p.m.\, Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. \nglo offers PLAY\,  the first of its kind movement shops for Atlanta’s youth\, grades 1-10\, to be free to move as freely as their spirits. \nSchool is more and more devoted to pure instruction\, and less and less time is given to play. We must have time to play: play as investigation\, role play\, knowing how to fall and get up again\, and play as an activity that takes places without knowing what the outcome will be. More than anything\, gloPLAY is about our youth having choices to move with child-like assurance. \nTuesdays 4 p.m.\, Saturdays 10:30 a.m. Pay what you can for all participants. \ngloPLAY will be led by glo moving artist Mary Jane Pennington.
