This documentary tells a story of empathetic bodies at work. Palatte’s film screening is part of glo’s A Night of Alchemy\, a cyclical meditation of film\, food\, and peacekeeping referencing the philosophical tradition of alchemy. Historic Rhodes Theatre is a beloved showplace that closed its door to the public in 1985. glo has been activating this dormant landmark with small-scale art activations since 2014\, to offer the public reflection and a sort of homecoming to this one-of-a-kind Atlanta place. Nights of Alchemy will continue through 2019. \nWith this year-long project\, glo activates dormant historic buildings. \nTickets @gloatl.org @thepalettegroup\nQuestions? info@gloatl.org

SUMMARY:The Traveling Show: Marion\, Alabama
DESCRIPTION:The Traveling Show: Marion is a nomadic movement and socially engaged art project along 3 miles of Marion\, Alabama\, a rich tapestry of Southern history\, culture\, and activism\, in the rural Black Belt region. The Traveling Show is a way to create an invitation through welcoming gestures that then encourages people to imagine more good could happen\, while examining real and tough issues. Beginning Monday morning\, March 11\, for six consecutive days\, glo will host ice cream socials\, create Movement Choirs with hundreds of children in Marion’s last remaining public elementary school\, and debut neon study #5\, Manifest\, on the grounds of Historic Lincoln Normal School\, one of the first institutions established for the education of African Americans after the Civil War. The project’s closing event on Saturday\, March 16 includes biscuits with Marion resident and award-winning chef of American Southern cuisine\, Scott Peacock. All events are free and public.                                      \nglo is passionate about the legacy of the South’s civil movements and wars and how they are remembered in our bodies\, how gesture and resistance are passed down over generations. The concepts of geography and cartography inspire us to explore issues of socioeconomic inequality\, ancestral\, and spiritual life\, and what new forms of expression develop when both sides of the tracks are engaged. Who can lay claim to the south? Who gets to dance? For a complete Traveling Show schedule\, write us here. \n\n\nglo launched The Traveling Show in 2013 with a seed grant from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. To date\, the project has engaged 52 rural Georgia towns and 2 art sites in 7 counties\, across 20\,000 miles\, to offer free and public art to 53\,546 Georgians. \nThe Traveling Show: Marion is made possible with support from a Southern Creative Places Grant from South Arts. This project is made possible by the Jean Childs Family\, Alabama chef Scott Peacock\, and the Mayor’s Office of Marion.

When we are provided an opportunity to be in nature\, quieten our minds\, and participate in time-honed exercises and situations\, it improves our ability to connect to others\, hear our desires\, and generate new ideas. These studiesfoster collectivity through group practice for not only artists\, but for practitioners and professionals in all disciplines. Practice for genuine connection before any interpretation\, giving attention to intuitive understanding and allowing for wisdom and emergence\, with a deep commitment to authentic movement. Through the joyful practice of play\, we keep close to our creativity and imaginations\, setting aside our expectations and assumptions. glo opens up our movement practice to any human being no matter their age\, size\, gender\, appearance or athletic training or performance experience level.\n\nOrigins\nIn 2009\, glo began our social performance platform as a 3-week educational intensive for artists. Through shared knowledge and the circulation of public intuition\, our movement exploration and social conscience has guided and evolved the platform. Our living laboratories have manifest into this year’s Summer Studies.\n\n\n\n\n
