Mechelle Tunstall

Praxis Associate, Moving Artist

Mechelle Tunstall is an English-Jamaican moving artist, wife and mother who studied biochemistry while before discovering movement. Tunstall was raised in London, England. She grew up playing football, biking the streets, and riding the train until the line ended.  As a young child, she came to the United States with her mum and younger brother. Tunstall attended the University of Houston, where she studied biochemistry while working as a paralegal. It was there that she discovered movement. She switched majors, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. From Texas to Arizona to the Bay Area, she became a wife and a mother while continuing to create work, and move with different choreographers and artists. In 2016, she moved to Atlanta, and two days later, found herself at The Goat Farm Arts Center, with glo. From standing in the shallows of the Chattahoochee River, to laying on the rain covered sidewalks of downtown Atlanta, Tunstall has learned about the city, its history, and peoples through her experiences with glo. She continues to work in the legal field as a transcriptionist, and teach yoga to folks both young and younger. All the while, glo continues to find space for her, the moving artist.
