Mary Jane Pennington

Lead, LAB Studies

With red clay under her fingernails, native Georgia moving artist Mary Jane Pennington grew up dancing, playing sports, running in the woods, and practicing love spells in hopes for everyone to feel loved. She left her hometown of Dalton, Georgia, for college and graduated from Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. She then moved to Atlanta to work with CORE performance company for two seasons before joining glo as a moving artist. Drawn to Stallings’ experiential movement language, the deep awareness, desire for exploration, opened her up to growing and changing as the glo platform continues to evolve — an immeasurable hybrid. Mary Jane enjoys practicing empathy, compassion, gratitude, transmutation and shapeshifting with her body and movement. She is all about how life is process, art is process and how community is always happening in process, when artists and public are not only dancing together, but talking together, eating together, farming together.

Mary Jane leads LAB studies, the platform’s educational program made up of two initiatives- Pedagogy of Hope, and people Movement SHOPS. When not inside the process with glo, she is teaching at Intown Tumbling & Yoga for Kids, volunteer farming, practicing yoga, playing in a volleyball league or walking in the woods.
