Project Description

The Blooming City

city-wide social sculpture

The Blooming City is a new city-wide project in Fulton County’s Palmetto community that is being transformed through the activation of  “in-between” places and sites dedicated to how art shapes the Palmetto community, environment, and makes each of us better. In addition to providing opportunities for hybrid art making, the restoration of the community of Palmetto reflects glo’s commitment to bridging the gap between art and life; work characterized by connection and deeply researched inter-disciplinary histories.

A diverse set of initiatives—land art, parlor conversations, art education, live art, and installatiosn—are organized within and across the existing structures to maximize access for the community. Prairie zones, installation, and a designated art education workshop studio create an active and inviting face to Toombs Street; around the corner neon light, and the textures and colors on trailing vines framing Farmers Bank Building reinforce a public heart for community and Main Street; and live art processions serving functions open to all are orchestrated on the opposite side of the street to consolidate the most public amenities along Toombs Street, and across from the Historic Railroad Depot. This choreographed field of creative openings will subtly reveal Palmetto as a blooming city all the time. The project is entirely free and public to all.
