Project Description
Free Bird Being (in process)
multi-discipline project
An evening-length live art work that consists of an ensemble of intergenerational women, and concerns growth. The immeasurable and the elemental. It’s alongside, keeping pace in every area. Free Bird Being uses the body to stir up memory, possibility, and movement into warmth and closer relationship. The meeting point of the ensemble of moving artists takes place inside a billowy, cloud-like structure with the public seated on all sides. Free Bird Being follows artist lauri stallings longstanding inquiries addressing the lives of Southern people. It takes a cue from Poet Laureate Pearl Cleage’s poem This Space That We Have Made Together.
The project will travel to communities in the Deep South in a series of site-based works, tailored through residencies with each of our partners.
