Making Kin

Making Kin is a commissioned series of public art works opening this August through October,  inviting us to observe how we resemble, influence, and attune to one-another. Named for Donna Haraway’s 2016 book Making Kin in the Chthulucene, earth (chthulu) and new kind (cene) is the act of not being able to think of ourselves as disconnected from the rest of life on earth. It’s also referred to as “staying with the trouble,” as used by Georgia warrior John Lewis.

A comprehensive interdisciplinary work by sound artist Monique Osorio,  choreographer lauri stallings, and musician Kebbi Williams that activates American artist Lonnie Holley Universe’s 2016 album, “keeping a record of it” as a site to extend from. Live activations by Atlanta artists, including glo moving artists Mary Jane Pennington, Zandia Covington, and the Atlanta Improvisers Orchestra Choir.
