Project Description
Off the Edge
inaugural contemporary performance event
A seven-day showcase of performances, classes and lectures seeking to elaborate on the cultural impact of dance presentation and diverse programming in downtown Atlanta at a historic theatre. Off the Edge was the first of its kind effort in Atlanta, created and conceptualized by Lauri Stallings, managed by Richard Carvlin, and presented by Georgia State’s Rialto Center, Kennesaw State University, and glo.
Components included an opening roundtable at Atlanta Contemporary, free and public artist-to-artist workshops in five locations across metro Atlanta, and Edge/PUBLIC, a performance installation series of Atlanta artists in Woodruff Park, curated by Paul Boshears. An Inter/National Guest Artists Series occurred over two nights at the Rialto Center, and the festival closing was a theatrical experience with Israeli artist Rina Sheinfeld at the Goat Farm Arts Center. Off the Edge wove the dance community as an elaborate host, and included CORE, Dance Canvas, Zoetic Dance Ensemble, Emory Dance, Full Radius Dance and Spelman College Department of Drama & Dance.
